Biography

Fatema Amijee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy. Her research primarily focuses on the Principle of Sufficient Reason, which posits that everything must have an explanation. This core tenet is explored through the lens of early modern rationalism, examining how metaphysical themes from philosophers such as Leibniz, Spinoza, and Du Châtelet interrelate with the Principle of Sufficient Reason. Amijee investigates how contemporary metaphysics interfaces with the Principle and raises questions about its implications for understanding reality at a fundamental level. In addition to her work on early modern rationalism, she explores topics in feminist philosophy, including depatriarchalizing strategies in Quranic interpretation, as well as the history of analytic philosophy, particularly Russell’s theory of knowledge.
