Biography

Fatima Pedrosa-Domellöf is a professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Umeå University in Sweden. With over 30 years of research experience, she has focused on extraocular muscles (EOMs) and their role in ocular motility. Her research emphasizes understanding the physiological properties of these muscles, their distinct behavior in diseases, particularly their relative insensitivity to muscular dystrophies. A key goal of her work is to investigate the molecular composition of EOMs to identify novel approaches for improving strabismus surgery outcomes. Her research also seeks to enhance therapeutic tools for patients suffering from muscular dystrophies, addressing the significant economic burden and loss of quality of life associated with poor strabismus surgery outcomes. She leads research initiatives at Umeå and is actively involved in the ALS Research group.
