Biography

Fay Lomax Cook is a Professor Emeritus at Northwestern University in the School of Education and Social Policy, having served as a faculty fellow at the Institute for Policy Research. Previously, she was appointed as an Assistant Director at the National Science Foundation (NSF), overseeing the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences Directorate. She directed Northwestern’s Institute for Policy Research from 1996 to 2012 and has been an influential figure in public policy research as a past president of the Gerontological Society of America and a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences. Cook has held positions as a visiting scholar at the Russell Sage Foundation and has contributed to various expert panels and committees related to aging and social welfare policy. Her research primarily focuses on the interrelationships between public opinion and public policy, especially regarding Social Security and social programs. Cook has published numerous scholarly articles and book chapters, including her work 'Talking Together: Public Deliberation and Political Participation in America.'
