Biography

Federica Eduati is an Associate Professor in the Systems Biology for Oncology Group at the Eindhoven University of Technology. The research focuses on understanding how patients respond differently to cancer therapies and developing personalized treatment strategies through interpretable computational models. Her group integrates prior knowledge of regulatory mechanisms and experimental data from various modalities—including omics and imaging—to develop multiscale models with spatial resolution for studying signaling dynamics and tumor-immune interactions. These models are trained and validated using data from public repositories, collaborations, and in-house experiments generated from advanced droplet microfluidics. Her work significantly contributes to the advancement of predictive and interpretable models in precision oncology, with the aim to improve cancer therapy outcomes by applying systems approaches to gain critical insights into the complexities of tumors. Eduati got her BSc in Biomedical Engineering and MSc in Bioengineering from the University of Padova, Italy, both with honors. After obtaining her PhD, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, collaborating with the Systems Biomedicine group and microfluidics experts. Since 2018, she has held a position at TU/e, focusing on systems biology in (immuno-)oncology and has also co-organized the NIEHS-NCATS-UNC DREAM Toxicogenetics Challenge. Eduati is also a freelancer with a startup aimed at commercializing a microfluidics platform for testing anticancer drugs directly on patient biopsies to enhance precision oncology.
