Federica Giordani is a Research Associate at the University of Glasgow with over ten years of expertise in drug discovery and drug resistance related to African animal trypanosomosis (AAT), a wasting livestock disease that causes poverty and food insecurity across vast areas of sub-Saharan Africa. Her interest in neglected tropical diseases and trypanosomoses began at the Department of Genetics at the University of Parma, Italy, where she earned her Master's degree in Biological Sciences. She worked as a Research Fellow focusing on new treatments for Chagas’ disease and Human African trypanosomiasis before moving to the University of Glasgow in 2011 to complete her PhD in parasitology. Currently, she is affiliated with the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Parasitology at the University, developing a wide range of research projects aimed at improving the treatment and control of protozoan parasitic diseases, including AAT. Over the past years, she has established long-lasting collaborations with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Programme for African Trypanosomosis (PAAT), applying her expertise to help advance tools and policies for the progressive control of AAT. Her primary research interest is in drug discovery targeting parasitic diseases, particularly those caused by Trypanosoma and Leishmania parasites. She collaborates with academic institutions and non-profit organizations, contributing to projects in the field by gathering data on activity, mode of action, and mechanisms of resistance of new drug candidates, utilizing "omics" techniques and tools.
