Biography

Federico Filetti is a Fellow in the Department of Social Policy at LSE, joining in September 2024, after serving as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Political Economy at King’s College London. He completed his PhD in Sociology at Sciences Po Paris in 2022, with a thesis titled 'Labour Market Protection and Family Policy in High-Income Countries: Continuity and Change (1990-2020)'. His research focuses on the transition of high-income countries toward a knowledge economy and the political policy drivers involved in this change. He collaborates with researchers from King’s College London, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Leiden on projects that aim to quantify these transitions and examine the effects of political preferences. A key project that he is a co-principal investigator on is titled 'Welfare State Change and the Polanyian Double Movement: How Social Policy Change Affects Women from Lower Social Classes'. This initiative, in partnership with Professor Emanuele Ferragina from Sciences Po Paris, integrates the fields of comparative social policy and political economy to analyze the impacts of labour market protection and family policy reforms on women in lower social classes. Federico aims to develop a critical research agenda that foregrounds the roles of class and gender within comparative social policy and sociology.
