Biography

Federico Savini is an Associate Professor at the University of Amsterdam in the Department of Environmental Planning, Institutions, and Politics. His research combines political sociology and spatial planning, focusing on the socio-ecological change associated with urbanization. He critically examines how changing planning regulations impact socio-ecological justice and explores innovative planning paradigms that align with social justice and planetary boundaries. Savini coordinates an international ERC-funded project on urbanization, degrowth, and the circular economy, and he has led several European collaborative projects. His empirical research addresses the socio-material flows of housing, waste, and food, and he investigates the relationship between urban policies and material circulations in cities.
