Federico Zilic de Arcos completed his undergraduate studies in naval engineering at Austral University of Chile in 2015, specializing in naval architecture and marine engineering. He worked as a research assistant at Canal de Ensayos Hidrodinámicos in Valdivia, Chile, where he co-founded a start-up company named Okeanos. In 2017, he joined the University of Oxford as a DPhil student, focusing his thesis on tidal turbine hydrodynamics and fluid-structure interactions. Following this, Federico was awarded the H2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship, co-funded by the Region Normandy, which allowed him to study dynamic loads on axial-flow rotors for floating energy systems at the Laboratoire Ondes et Milieux Complexes in Le Havre, France. He returned to the University of Oxford in 2024 as a Departmental Lecturer in Civil Engineering and Fluid Mechanics, affiliated with St Edmund Hall. His research interests primarily focus on numerical and experimental aero-/hydrodynamics, particularly concerning renewable energy systems. His work encompasses the development and validation of numerical models to predict the steady and dynamic loads on axial-flow turbines, as well as research into rotor fluid dynamics, fluid-structure interactions, and floating energy systems.
