Dr. Fei Chiang

Biography

Fei Chiang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computing and Software at McMaster University. She directs the Data Science Research Lab and has been recognized for her contributions as a Faculty Fellow at the IBM Centre for Advanced Studies and as the inaugural Associate Director of the MacData Institute. Fei holds a B.Sc and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto and an M. Math from the University of Waterloo. She is a noted researcher in data management, focusing on data quality, cleaning, profiling, and preparation in connection with large language models. Fei has been awarded multiple patents for her innovations in self-managing database systems, alongside receiving the Ontario Early Researcher Award in 2018 and the VLDB Distinguished Reviewer Award in 2023. Her current research addresses critical topics such as improving data currency in data systems, data integrity over graphs, and differentiating concept drift from anomalies in time series analysis. Fei is actively involved in the academic community, serving on various editorial boards and organizing committees for significant conferences such as ICDE and VLDB.
