Biography

Felicity Callard joined the University of Glasgow as a Professor of Human Geography in April 2020. Previously, she served as the Social Research Director at Birkbeck Institute for Social Research, University of London. Her research spans multiple disciplines in interpretive social sciences and humanities, with a focus on mental health, cultural geography, and medical humanities. She began her academic career as a lecturer in Human Geography at Royal Holloway and Queen Mary Universities of London. Callard has also worked as a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King's College London, and held a fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin. Her doctoral studies were completed at Johns Hopkins University in Geography. Callard’s research interests include the intersections of geography, health, and social studies, particularly in relation to mental health crises in higher education, the 'replication crisis' in sciences, and patient/public involvement in research. She is also the director of the Hubbub residency at the Wellcome Collection, which engages with mental health, neuroscience, and arts. Her publications cover a range of topics, including historical geographies of anxiety and discussions around Long Covid.
