Dr. Felix Wehrli

Biography

Felix Werner Wehrli, PhD, is a Professor of Radiologic Science at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He is the Director of the Laboratory for Structural, Physiologic Functional Imaging at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. His research expertise lies in quantitatively characterizing the relationship between tissue properties and physiological function using spatially resolved magnetic resonance imaging. His current studies focus on developing novel image-based quantitative methods to investigate tissue oxygen metabolism, with enhanced temporal and spatial resolution. Wehrli's work also involves the evaluation of preclinical vascular disease, facilitating the quantification of markers for endothelial dysfunction in systemic circulation. His applications target various subjects, including those exposed to e-cigarette aerosol and patients with sleep disorders. Furthermore, ongoing projects included the development of techniques to study bone matrix mineral properties and assess metabolic degenerative skeletal disorders using image-based computational biomechanics. His long-term goals involve creating orthopedic applications for patient-specific hip fracture prediction through high-resolution 3D anatomical models.
