Professor Dr. Femeena Valappil

Biography

Femeena Pandara Valappil is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at Penn State University. She specializes in ecohydrology, focusing on water quality, stream nutrient uptake, and biogeochemical cycling. Her research interests extend to agricultural and urban management practices, land use, and the impacts of climate change on watersheds. Femeena employs simulation modeling, optimization, and geospatial analysis to explore the water-energy-food nexus and conduct life cycle assessments. She holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Biological Engineering from Purdue University, where she graduated in 2019. Femeena also has a Master's degree in Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the College of Engineering Trivandrum. She previously worked as an Assistant Research Professor at Penn State University's Earth Environmental Systems Institute and Civil Environmental Engineering, and has experience as a technical consultant for BAI Group LLC and as a graduate engineer in India.
