Dr. Femke Truijens

Biography

Femke L. Truijens is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam, focusing on interdisciplinary research in borderline clinical psychology and methodology philosophy in science. Her work addresses fundamental questions in clinical research, examining the validity of clinical data and the methods used to collect and interpret it. She completed her PhD at Ghent University, Belgium, analyzing empirical data from the Ghent Psychotherapy Study—a mixed-method randomized controlled trial investigating the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral versus psychodynamic treatment for depression. At the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences, she leads research on the validity of routine outcome measurement in the Dutch mental health care system and develops courses such as Severe Mental Illness in Urban Contexts, emphasizing pluralist perspectives on diagnostics and recovery paradigms. Furthermore, she is actively involved in the Qualitative Research Collective for mental health and has initiated an international interest group focused on evidence guidelines in psychotherapy.
