Biography

Femke van Esch is a Professor and Vice Dean at Utrecht University School of Governance. She is an expert in leadership, European governance, and the European Union's economic and monetary integration. Her research focuses on cognitive mapping and the European response to crises, emphasizing the role of leaders' beliefs and national culture in the political psychological dimensions of legitimacy. She developed research software for cognitive mapping analyses and leads projects under the Transcrisis Project, aimed at enhancing the EU's capacity for transboundary crisis management. She is actively involved in public policy debates and has written extensively on European governance and leadership.
