Dr. Femke Van Noorloos

Biography

Femke van Noorloos is an Associate Professor at Utrecht University specializing in International Development Studies and Human Geography & Planning within the Faculty of Geosciences. Her research focuses on urban housing, large-scale urban projects, and citizen-led urban development. Van Noorloos has worked extensively in various regions including Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Europe, co-creating knowledge that addresses the global North/South divide. She is particularly interested in the dimensions of migration, mobility, tourism, and the intersectional, gendered inequalities that shape urban dynamics. Femke has supervised a variety of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers related to her areas of interest, contributing to an expansive repository of knowledge in urban studies. Additionally, she serves as the co-director of the International Development Studies Master's programme and teaches courses in Human Geography and Planning at both Bachelor's and Master's levels, engaging students from diverse backgrounds. She has also participated in various international projects, including 'Frontiers Forest City' in Indonesia, and is involved in initiatives like the Shared Value Foundation.
