Biography

Fengzhi joined Adam Smith Business School in 2023 as a Lecturer in Accounting after earning a PhD in Accounting from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. She holds a Master’s degree in Business Finance and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance, also from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Fengzhi's research interests focus on determinants, properties, and consequences of firms' disclosures. Rather than concentrating solely on traditional accounting numbers, she utilizes Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to extract relevant information from open-source unstructured narrative disclosures released through various emerging channels. Her expertise includes Financial Reporting, Narrative Disclosures, Accounting Conservatism, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in disclosures. Fengzhi is an active member of the European Accounting Association, the Canadian Academic Accounting Association, the American Accounting Association, and the Accounting Economics Society. She serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for several academic publications including those affiliated with FARS Midyear Conferences, Accounting and Business Research, British Accounting Review, and others. Her current PhD supervision includes research on the consequences of mandatory iXBRL adoption among SEC mandated U.S. filers and she is interested in supervising students focusing on corporate narrative disclosures, voluntary disclosures, and AI/ML/textual analysis in accounting research.
