Biography

Fenton Litwiller is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management at the University of Manitoba. They earned their BA in Outdoor Education from Augustana University, and subsequently developed skills in whitewater canoeing and backcountry hiking, which they used as a river guide in Northern Canada. Litwiller completed a Master’s degree in Experiential Education at Prescott College and earned their PhD in Physical Education and Recreation from the University of Alberta, followed by a Post-Doctoral fellowship at Dalhousie University in Health and Human Performance. Their research focuses on inclusive public recreation and critical theories, particularly regarding the experiences and identities of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. Litwiller has received numerous research and scholarship awards, including the University of Manitoba Falconer Emerging Researcher Award. Their contributions have been recognized by national and international scholarly organizations, and they have supported multiple provincial and national funding agencies.
