Biography

Ferenc Huszár completed his PhD in Machine Learning at the University of Cambridge's Engineering Department in 2013, focusing on Bayesian inference and nonparametric kernel methods. He has significant experience in the technology sector, having worked with tech startups and briefly in venture capital. Huszár served as Principal Research Scientist at the deep learning startup Magic Pony Technology, where he applied deep learning techniques to lossy image and video compression. After Magic Pony was acquired by Twitter in 2016, he took on the role of Senior Machine Learning Researcher at Twitter, where he worked on a variety of machine learning projects in computer vision and recommender systems. He also contributed to the establishment of Twitter's ML Ethics, Transparency, and Accountability (META) team. In 2020, he joined the Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Cambridge. In addition to his university role, he runs AI retreats for high school students in Hungary and Ukraine, promoting education in artificial intelligence and machine learning. His teaching includes courses on Deep Learning and Natural Language Processing, as well as advanced topics such as Causal Inference and AI Safety.
