Biography

Fereshteh Sattari obtained her PhD in Chemical & Materials Engineering with a focus on Process Control from the University of Alberta, Canada. She is currently a Research Director and Instructor at the David Joan Lynch School of Engineering Safety and Risk Management. In her role, she teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses, including Quantitative Risk Analysis (CME 694), and supervises numerous research projects that aim to apply artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques to optimize and simulate biomass conversion processes. She has a strong research interest in analyzing incident reports to reduce incident rates within the oil and gas industry and leads projects to enhance Canada's strategy for safely transporting dangerous goods by rail. Her work also involves collaborating with Alberta Innovates on research related to codes, standards, and regulatory insurance gaps, particularly in the development of the hydrogen value chain. Additionally, Fereshteh contributes to developing graduate course material and new research engagement proposals.
