Biography

Feridun Hamdullahpur is the sixth president and vice-chancellor of the University of Waterloo, serving from 2010 to 2021. He is an accomplished engineer and educator with a significant career in research and higher education. A professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, he holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia, and both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University. Professor Hamdullahpur is an active researcher in thermo-fluids and energy engineering and has published hundreds of scientific papers while supervising 50 graduate students. He was named a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering in 2014 and received the title of Specially Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2018 due to his significant contributions to advancing educational innovation and engineering. His leadership in education was further recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in January 2013.
