Fernando Guastaldi received his DDS from the Dental School of Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil; he is a specialist in oral maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) and earned his MSc and PhD in the same field from the Dental School of Araçatuba, São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil. In 2012, Guastaldi served as a visiting scholar in the Department of Biomaterials and Biomimetics at New York University College of Dentistry. He has completed postdoctoral research fellowships at the Dental School of Araraquara (UNESP) and subsequently at the Skeletal Biology Research Center (SBRC) within the Department of OMFS at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Currently, Guastaldi serves as the director of the Skeletal Biology Research Center at MGH. His research primarily focuses on the use of biomaterials—including titanium, titanium alloys, ceramics, and polymers—for bone tissue regeneration and engineering, specifically in jaw repair and the regeneration of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) tissue.
