Biography

Fernando Guastaldi is an Assistant Professor of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He received his DDS degree from the Dental School of Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil, specializing in oral maxillofacial surgery. He holds an MSc and a PhD in oral maxillofacial surgery from the Dental School of Araçatuba, São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil. In 2012, he was a visiting scholar at the Department of Biomaterials and Biomimetics at New York University College of Dentistry. Guastaldi has completed postdoctoral research fellowships both at the Dental School of Araraquara (UNESP), Brazil, and at the Skeletal Biology Research Center (SBRC) at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), where he is the director. His research primarily focuses on the use of biomaterials—including titanium alloys, ceramics, and polymers—for bone tissue regeneration, specifically in jaw repair and in relation to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).
