Biography

Fernando Patino Ramirez is an Assistant Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He earned his BSc and MSc degrees in Civil Engineering from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia and completed his MSc in Computer Science and Engineering and PhD in Geosystems at Georgia Institute of Technology in 2020. Following the completion of his PhD, Dr. Patino Ramirez joined the Geotechnics section at Imperial College London as a postdoctoral researcher, where he worked as a teaching and research fellow. His professional experience includes working as a geotechnical engineer in both Colombia and the United States, as well as engaging in entrepreneurial ventures related to climate mitigation and adaptation. Dr. Patino Ramirez specializes in areas such as geomechanics, in-situ testing, trenchless methods, and offshore applications. His research combines physical modeling, reduced scale modeling, numerical methods including discrete element methods (DEM) and finite element methods (FEM), along with computational algorithms and novel measurement devices.
