Dr. Fernando Pedone

Biography

Fernando Pedone received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, in 1999. He has served as an Assistant and Associate Professor at the University of Lugano and has previously worked as a researcher at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories in Palo Alto, California, as well as a senior researcher at EPFL. His professional interests encompass the theory and practice of distributed systems, particularly in distributed data management systems. His theoretical work has focused on algorithmic aspects of reliable distributed systems, including defining new abstractions for building reliable systems and creating algorithms to implement these abstractions while proving their correctness. In systems work, he has explored using group communication abstractions to construct replicated data management systems. Pedone has authored more than 70 scientific papers and co-edited the book 'Replication: Theory and Practice'.
