Biography

Fernando Ernesto Rosas De Andraca's research focuses on formulating novel mathematical frameworks based on foundational intuitions about information processed in distributed resource-constrained systems, which lead to algorithms that enable new avenues for practical data analysis. He is particularly interested in developing tools to deepen the understanding of the human brain, especially in social scenarios involving collective experiences. He believes that insightful science can lead to a world where humans are empowered by novel technologies that foster creativity and well-being. He studied contemporary music composition and jazz improvisation, but his exposure to modern art triggered questions that pushed him to study philosophy. This led to inquiries into pure mathematics and ultimately to research in electrical engineering. He worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and KU Leuven, exploring the design of autonomous networks of wireless acoustic sensors. After returning to theoretical issues, he worked at National Taiwan University and arrived at Imperial College London in 2017 through a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship, engaging in intersections of computational neuroscience and complexity science. Recently, he has been affiliated with multiple departments at Imperial and the University of Sussex, focused on research in complexity science.
