Biography

Fidel Vila-Rodriguez is a Clinician-Scientist with a strong interest in conducting translational research that bridges the understanding of neurobiology and psychiatric disorders with clinical applications. His clinical practice is actively focused on severely afflicted conditions, directing his research towards finding novel therapeutic interventions through Non-Invasive Neurostimulation Therapies (NINETs) to help mitigate the suffering of individuals experiencing severe refractory forms of psychosis and depression. He strongly believes that understanding the mechanisms of action of NINETs is a critical step in translating research knowledge into clinical practice, having a direct and immediate positive impact on the lives of those struggling with devastating forms of mental illness. Fidel is the Director of the Non-Invasive Neurostimulation Therapies (NINET) Laboratory and the Schizophrenia Program, where he actively investigates various forms of NINET using a range of neurophysiological tools to research biomarkers. His laboratory is recognized as a center in Canada that hosts simultaneous TMS-fMRI and tDCS-fMRI capabilities.
