Biography

Filip Sosenko is an applied social researcher with 14 years of hands-on experience. He has worked on 40 research projects utilizing mixed-methods and quantitative approaches. His interests include social determinants of health and 'Health-in-all-policies' approaches to policymaking, as well as research methodologies and quasi-experimental ways of analyzing observational data. His research has focused on populations experiencing economic disadvantages and the associated social disadvantages leading to poor physical and mental health outcomes. He has engaged with various services within the welfare system and has considerable experience working with large and complex datasets, including national household surveys such as Understanding Society, the Scottish Health Survey, and the Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey, as well as administrative datasets like Hospital Episode Statistics. His contributions to world-class research were recognized when he won the Queen's Anniversary Prize in 2019. He has also examined factors contributing to the increased risk of severe COVID-19 among people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He is particularly interested in supervising projects that relate to social determinants of health and involve primary data collection. In 2022, he supervised an MSc Global Mental Health project titled 'How Help Don’t Want: Exploring Mechanisms of Efficacy in Masculine Tailored Help-Seeking Interventions.'
