Dr. Findlay Stark

Biography

Professor Findlay Stark specializes in criminal law, evidence, and legal procedure. His research delves into moral, legal, and political philosophy. Stark's work is particularly focused on mens rea, especially the fault element of crime including recklessness and negligence. He has authored a notable monograph titled 'Culpable Carelessness: Recklessness and Negligence in Criminal Law', published by Cambridge University Press in 2016. His research has been featured in prestigious journals such as the Cambridge Law Journal, Criminal Law and Philosophy, and the Modern Law Review. In addition, Stark has contributed to edited collections published by leading legal publishers. His work has been cited in significant legal cases including those in the Court of Appeal and the New Zealand Supreme Court. As a co-author and editor, he collaborated on 'Simester & Sullivan’s Criminal Law: Theory and Doctrine', an advanced textbook in criminal law.
