Fiona Bright completed her PhD in Medicine in 2017 at the University of Adelaide, investigating the brainstem neuropathology underlying sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). She was awarded the International SIDS Fellowship funded by Rivers Gift, allowing her to spend 18 months at Harvard University Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital. In 2017, she received the Kaarene Fitzgerald SIDS Postdoctoral Research Fellowship funded by RedNose Australia to continue her SIDS research at the University of Adelaide. Seeking new challenges, she took on a Postdoctoral role in the NHMRC Funded ForeFront research group at the University of Sydney in 2018, exploring neuroimmune-mediated mechanisms associated with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). In 2020, Fiona was awarded the Macquarie University Research Fellowship to conduct research at the Dementia Research Centre under the supervision of Professor Lars Ittner and Associate Professor Yazi Ke. Her current research interests focus on the neuroimmune and neuroinflammatory mechanisms and pathways underlying neuropathology associated with neurodegeneration, with specific emphasis on the innate immune complement cascade and TDP-43 pathology in frontotemporal dementia and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
