Biography

Fiona Doherty is a Clinical Professor of Law and the Director of the Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization at Yale Law School. She founded the Criminal Justice Clinic, where she defends indigent clients accused of felony and misdemeanor offenses. Her teaching focuses on Criminal Law and Sentencing. She has received the Yale Provost’s Teaching Prize and the Yale Law Women Faculty Excellence Award. Previously, she served as an Assistant Federal Defender for the Southern District of New York and as Senior Counsel for Human Rights in New York City, advocating for human rights protections within U.S. anti-terrorism measures. Professor Doherty earned her J.D. from Yale Law School in 1999 and clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She received the Bernstein Fellowship to work in Northern Ireland, focusing on cases involving the targeting of defense lawyers during conflict. Currently, her scholarship addresses issues surrounding supervised release, probation, and parole.
