Biography

Fiona joined the Department of Social Policy as an LSE Fellow after completing her PhD in the same department. Her research focuses on educational inequalities perpetuated and legitimized by accepted social groups. Prior to embarking on her PhD journey, Fiona worked as a researcher at the Policy Research Centre, NatCen Social Research, where she was involved in policy evaluations using a diverse range of research methods. This experience allowed her to gain proficiency in qualitative and mixed-method research. Fiona is also a co-founder of an international forum for early-stage researchers. Her doctoral thesis employed mixed methods to explore the interrelationship of processes of educational stratification and the understanding of meritocracy in Germany and Romania. Her work contributes to the existing literature on education regimes and provides a nuanced analysis of post-socialist countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Moreover, her research investigates how elite students in these countries conceptualize educational privilege and success.
