Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Fiona Hunter. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Fiona Hunter is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Brock University. Her research focuses on various aspects of biting flies, including their behavioral ecology, blood-feeding and sugar-feeding preferences, and the effects of different sugar sources on longevity and fecundity. She conducts molecular systematics studies examining intra- and inter-specific relationships in biting flies using DNA sequence analyses, including projects on mosquitoes in Canada, Ecuador, and Costa Rica, as well as tabanids and ceratopogonids in Ontario. Additionally, her lab works on arthropod-borne disease surveillance, studying mosquito populations for West Nile virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, Zika virus, and tick surveillance for Lyme disease and Babesiosis. In the lab, Hunter conducts arbovirus transmission studies, determining the vector competence of mosquito species to transmit viruses. She has a Ph.D. in Biology from Queen’s University and has extensive experience in the field of biological sciences, contributing significantly to our understanding of insect-borne diseases.
