Fionn Dunne holds the Chair in Micromechanics and is a Principal Research Fellow at Imperial College London. His research focuses on the fundamentals of deformation and fracture, particularly in hexagonal close-packed (hcp) polycrystal nickel alloys. This includes experimental work, characterization, computational crystal plasticity, and discrete dislocation plasticity. Dunne's work has applications in micro-deformation, fatigue crack nucleation, and microstructure-sensitive crack growth, as well as polycrystal sonics and non-destructive evaluation (NDE). He has published over 180 research papers and co-authored the book 'Introduction to Computational Plasticity' with Oxford University Press in 2005. He has served as a consultant for Rolls-Royce and was a member of the Core Materials Working Group and MOD's Research Programmes Group. He held the Royal Academy of Engineering/Rolls-Royce Research Chair from 2015-2020. Dunne has led important EPSRC programme grants and directed the Imperial Rolls-Royce Nuclear University Technology Centre. His academic contributions have been recognized with several awards, including being elected as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2010 and receiving the IoM3 Harvey Flower Prize in 2016.
