Fionnuala Doran is an Irish artist residing and working in Scotland. She graduated with an MA in Visual Communication from the Royal College of Art and now lectures in Illustration at the Edinburgh College of Art. Doran's graphic novel, 'Trial Roger Casement,' was published by Self Made Hero. She has worked with various organizations including 404Ink, BHP Comics, Vacuum, Northern Ireland Film Festival, and CCA Derry Museum Teletext Art (MUTA) in Finland, and her work has been exhibited across Europe. Throughout her career, Doran has participated in artist residencies at Banff Centre in Canada and Atlantic Centre for the Arts in Florida. Her research interests encompass graphic novels, sequential art, narrative illustration, decolonial visual narratives, and the exploration of personal and social visual histories through fan culture and communities. Doran's artistic practice distinctly combines elements of sublime and cult aesthetics, often navigating the boundaries between popular culture and genre fiction while examining the complexities surrounding personal and collective narratives, particularly in relation to Irish history. She is also currently supervising PhD students exploring queer and contested decolonial visual narratives as well as visual narrative explorations of mental and physical health.
