Dr. Fiorenza Micheli

Biography

Fiorenza Micheli is the David Lucile Packard Professor of Marine Science at Stanford University and a Senior Fellow at the Woods Institute for the Environment. Her research focuses on processes shaping coastal marine communities and social-ecological systems, with an emphasis on marine conservation. Micheli investigates the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems, the ecology of marine predators, the dynamics of small-scale fisheries, and the design and function of Marine Protected Areas. She has authored or co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and has directly advised 20 postdoctoral researchers and 20 PhD students, contributing significantly to the field of Marine Science. As co-director of the Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions, Micheli applies ecological principles to inform management and conservation strategies, designing solutions that bolster the resilience of marine environments amidst human impacts. She has been awarded fellowships from prestigious organizations such as the California Academy of Sciences and has conducted numerous presentations at international conferences, demonstrating her role as a leading voice in Marine Conservation practices.
