Biography

Firdaus Erach Udwadia is a Professor Emeritus in Aerospace Mechanical Engineering and Civil Environmental Engineering. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a minor in Applied Math from the California Institute of Technology in 1972. He also earned a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1969 and a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai in 1968, along with an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California in 1985. Professor Udwadia has had a distinguished academic career with numerous positions at the University of Southern California. His research interests encompass dynamics and control, nonlinear dynamical systems, applied mathematics, mechanics of materials, structural analytical dynamics, system identification, optimization, and collaborative engineering management. He has notably published several papers in the realm of science and engineering and has been recognized with various awards throughout his career, including the Theodore von Karman Medal in 2023 and the Thomas Caughey Medal in 2018.
