Biography

Fitalew Taye is an experienced Environmental Economist Research Fellow at the Centre for Environmental Economics and Policy at the University of Western Australia. He is actively involved in the Coastal Blue Carbon project led by Deakin University and funded by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water (DCCEEW). His role focuses on project-level environmental economic accounting for wetland restoration case studies. Prior to joining his current position, Taye worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Griffith University, where he conducted extensive research on the valuation of forest ecosystem services and the analysis of community preferences for the conservation of tropical primary forests through Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) schemes. He completed a significant case study assessing the adoption of climate-smart technologies in the Democratic Republic of Congo, collaborating with researchers from both Griffith University and the Woodwell Climate Research Centre, USA. Taye's research interests encompass non-market valuation, discrete choice modeling, and natural capital accounting. He has expertise related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, contributing to efforts aimed at ending poverty and protecting the planet. Taye is dedicated to furthering knowledge in applied economics and environmental economic accounting.
