Biography

Flavia Q. Pirih serves as the chair of the Division of Regenerative and Reconstructive Sciences at the UCLA School of Dentistry, where she holds the Tarrson Family Endowed Chair in Periodontics. She obtained her D.D.S. degree from the Federal University of Parana in Brazil and completed her Ph.D. in Oral Biology at UCLA. Dr. Pirih also holds a master's degree and residency certificate in Periodontics from the University of Michigan, where she furthered her research training as a post-doctoral fellow. She became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 2009 and teaches at both the pre-doctoral and post-graduate levels. In her role as Director of the Pre-doctoral Program in the Section of Periodontics for a decade, she provides comprehensive periodontal and implant surgical services at UCLA's Periodontics Implant Surgery Faculty Practice. Her research laboratory focuses on understanding the clinical aspects of periodontitis and peri-implantitis, aiming to develop novel strategies for prevention and treatment. She conducts translational research to examine the genetic roles in patients' susceptibility to periodontitis.
