Biography

Flavio Lehner obtained his PhD in Climate Science from the University of Bern, Switzerland in 2013. He had a brief engagement as a Science Officer in the Technical Support Unit for the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report and joined the Climate Global Dynamics Lab at NCAR with a fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation in 2014. He was awarded a NOAA postdoctoral fellowship and continued at NCAR’s Research Applications Lab before transitioning to a Project Scientist position at NCAR, where he has been leading and co-leading projects. For the past year, Flavio has been working as a Senior Scientist at ETH Zürich, Switzerland, before joining Cornell University as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2020. His research investigates the influence of internal and externally-forced variability to understand and project climate change at global and regional scales. He aims to improve understanding of the dynamics that govern variability and the uncertainties involved in climate projections.
