Biography

Floor Alkemade is a Full Professor and Chair in Economics Governance Technological Innovation at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His key areas of expertise include innovation, cleantech, and sustainability. His research aims to identify general location-specific mechanisms that lead to successful innovations for sustainability. Together with a group of PhD students, Floor employs data-driven simulation approaches to analyze innovation and sustainability at scale, with examples including the behavior of electric vehicle owners, smart grids, and eco-innovation capacities across countries. He has received several prestigious grants such as the ERC Consolidator Grant (2022), Vidi Grant (2014), and Veni Grant (2008) to support his research projects on innovation sustainability. Floor was previously affiliated with the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at Utrecht University and the Dutch National Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI). He obtained his PhD in Agent-Based Evolutionary Economics from TU/e in 2004, where he also conducted his doctoral research at the CWI. Additionally, he holds an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from VU University Amsterdam. Floor Alkemade has been an associate editor for the Journal of Environmental Innovation and Societal Transitions and joined the Technological, Innovation and Society group at TU/e in 2015.
