Biography

Flora Botelho is a social anthropologist who graduated from the University of Copenhagen and obtained her Ph.D. from Aarhus University. Her research primarily focuses on ethnic minorities, national ethnic identities, social difference, and inequality, with particular emphasis on Mozambique, Brazil, and Denmark. Her upcoming monograph, based on her Ph.D. research, investigates the everyday lives of young women in Maputo, Mozambique, exploring the intrinsic inequalities within interpersonal relationships. Inequality has remained a central element in her research as she examines the negotiations of egalitarian values provoked by transnational migration to Europe and the production of racial categories within both colonial and postcolonial medical practices in Mozambique. Additionally, Flora has collaborated on various top research areas over the past five years, engaging in projects that highlight the complexities of race and identity.
