Dr. Flora Renz

Biography

Flora Renz is a socio-legal scholar whose research interests broadly lie in the areas of gender, disability, and social legal inequalities. Her approach to law is influenced by feminist theory and critical disability studies, utilizing a mix of empirical methods and theoretical analysis. Flora's publications include the monograph 'Gender Recognition Law: Troubling Transgender Peoples' Engagement with Legal Regulation,' set to be published by Taylor & Francis in 2024. She has published extensively on trans issues and has critically examined the regulation of single-sex spaces and access to healthcare concerning gender markers in leading legal journals, including the Journal of Law and Society and Feminist Legal Studies. Her work has been recognized in high-quality news sources such as The Guardian and BBC News. Flora has collaborated on projects that address the public health issues faced by LGBT individuals, particularly those who are victims of human trafficking. Currently, she is leading a British Academy-funded research project that explores gender and disability in the context of wheelchair rugby. Prior to joining King's College London, Flora held positions at the University of Kent and City, University of London. Furthermore, she is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is involved in PhD supervision.
