Professor Florian Bassermann conducts research in molecular pathophysiology of malignant diseases, focusing on the aberrant mechanisms of ubiquitin-dependent signaling pathways. These pathways play a crucial role in regulating cellular processes relevant to tumors, including immune cell cycle regulation, cellular responses to DNA damage, cell metabolism, and programmed cell death. His findings are applied in translational studies investigating the significance of pathogenesis and therapeutic treatments for hematological and solid tumors. Professor Bassermann studied medicine in Ulm, Munich, and New York, obtaining his doctorate at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 2002. He began his career as a physician-researcher at TUM before working as a post-doctoral researcher at New York University from 2006 to 2009. Upon returning to TUM, he led an Emmy Noether Junior Research Group funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and became a qualified specialist in internal medicine and hematology/oncology, completing his post-doctoral teaching qualification. In 2011, he was appointed senior physician, and in 2015, he accepted a Tenure Track Professorship at TUM. In 2017, he became the director of the Clinic Polyclinic Internal Medicine III at TUM Rechts der Isar Hospital.
