Dr. Floris Biskamp

Biography

Floris Biskamp is a guest professor in Democracy Education and Sustainable Development at Freie Universität Berlin for the winter semester 2021/22. He has been a postdoc at the University of Tübingen since September 2018. Biskamp holds degrees in Physics and Political Science from Gießen and Boston and has written a sociological dissertation focused on recent critical theory, post-colonial criticism, and anti-Muslim racism, funded by the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal Government. He spent a semester as a visiting assistant researcher at Yale University under Seyla Benhabib. His previous roles include teaching positions at the University of Kassel in globalization and politics as well as international relations, where he also coordinated a doctoral college on social rights related to populist politics. His main research areas include political theory, political education, international political economy, populism studies, and racism studies. Notable publications include "Orientalism and Democratic Publics" (2016) and co-edited volumes on right-wing populism. Alongside his academic responsibilities, he is active in public discourse focusing on political education against racism and anti-Semitism.
