Dr. Flynt Leverett

Biography

Flynt Leverett is a prominent scholar specializing in Middle Eastern politics and international political economy. He is part of the founding faculty of Penn State's School of International Affairs and serves as a faculty affiliate at the Penn State School of Law and the Asian Studies Program. Leverett has held the position of visiting scholar at Peking University’s School of International Studies and has contributed extensively to discussions on U.S. foreign policy, particularly in relation to Iran and China. Leverett's career includes nine years as a senior Middle East analyst at the Central Intelligence Agency, where he earned the Superior Honor award for his contributions following the September 11 attacks. He has also served as a senior director for Middle East affairs on the National Security Council during his time in the White House. Leverett's major publications, including "Going Tehran: America Accepts The Islamic Republic of Iran" and "Inheriting Syria: Bashar’s Trial By Fire," highlight significant aspects of American and Middle Eastern relations. He has lectured and presented at esteemed institutions worldwide and has been a featured commentator on various international news programs. His work continues to influence policy discussions and academic thought across multiple disciplines.
