Biography

Forrest Crawford is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Yale University. His research focuses on the development of statistical methods for understanding stochastic processes in genetics, evolution, epidemiology, neuroscience, and public health. Professor Crawford has a rich portfolio of ongoing projects that examine evolutionary dynamics of infectious diseases, intra-host viral evolution, DNA sequence alignment, and DNA forensics. He also investigates reporting error models for self-reported quantities in surveys and analyzes medical image data. His expertise extends into theoretical and methodological issues in statistical inference, probabilistic matrix factorization, and regularization for high-dimensional regression problems.
