Dr. Fotis Vergis

Biography

Fotis Vergis is an Assistant Professor at Gonville & Caius College, University of Cambridge, specializing in Labour Law, EU Law, and Constitutional Theory. He holds a Law Degree with Honours and an LLM in Civil Law from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as an LLM and a PhD in Law from the University of Cambridge. His doctoral thesis focused on Collective Labour Rights and the effects of the Treaty of Lisbon on the constitutionalisation of EU law, earning the Yorke Prize and a runner-up position for the ETUC/ETUI Bercusson Award. His research interests include the dynamics of digital collective action, collective autonomy, and the constitutional nature of the EU, demonstrating a commitment to exploring systemic democratization through legal frameworks. Before joining Cambridge, he was a Lecturer in Law at The University of Manchester, where he received several accolades for his teaching and academic advising. He is actively involved in various legal societies and editorial boards, contributing to ongoing discussions and scholarship in Labour Law and its intersection with EU directives. His works include co-editing a publication addressing the crises within the EU and focusing on issues like collective labour law and migrant workers.
