Biography

Fran Gebhard has performed numerous roles in theatres across Canada and is known for her one-woman show 'Looking for Kitty.' At the Phoenix Theatre, she has portrayed characters in productions such as 'Amigo’s Blue Guitar' and 'Dark Moon.' Fran regularly conducts workshops for Theatre BC members and has served as a mainstage adjudicator for the organization. In 2015, she was also a guest adjudicator for Theatre Saskatchewan’s regional festival. Her extensive fourteen-year association with the Banff Centre includes roles such as Program Head for the Playwrights’ Colony and coordinator for the Screenwriters’ Workshop initiated by Charles Isreal. Fran’s dramaturgical work continues with the Playwrights Theatre Centre. She has previously taught acting and directing at the University of Regina. Her directorial projects at the Phoenix Theatre include 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown,' a co-direction of 'Marowitz Hamlet,' 'Wreckage,' 'School Scandal,' and 'Crackpot,' along with directing 'Midsummer Night's Dream' in Fall 2014. Other direction credits include productions such as 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses,' 'Affections,' 'Twelfth Night,' and 'Midsummer Night’s Dream.' With a 30-year career in acting for film and television, Fran was a regular cast member of the CBC series 'Nice.' She has also been a guest book reviewer for CBC Radio and hosted her own program called Fran's CULTure Showcase. Her film and television credits encompass notable projects including 'Blue City,' 'Slammers' (for which she received a Genie nomination), 'Chris Isaak Show,' 'Dead Zone,' 'Taken,' and 'Case No.39' with Renée Zellweger.
