Biography

Frances H. Arnold is the Linus Pauling Professor of Chemical Engineering and Biochemistry at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the director of the Donna and Benjamin M. Rosen Bioengineering Center. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Princeton University in 1979 and a Ph.D. from the University of California in 1985. Her pioneering work in directed evolution and refining new approaches to protein engineering earned her the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2018.
