Frances Davis works across contemporary arts research, practice, and education. Recent projects include 'Microbursts', a series of texts that develop an embodied affective critique of artists' moving image works and their atmospheric encounters with viewers. In 'Let’s Talk Weather', she created a polyphonic weather report addressing the changing climate, which was supported by Lyth Arts Centre in Caithness. She has also participated in a residency at an environmental science institution focusing on the affective experience of climate change. Frances curated 'Love Ocean', presenting screening works at Lux Scotland. From 2020 to 2023, she was the coordinator for Taisbean / Curators’ North, supporting curators' professional development in the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Previously, from 2013 to 2017, she was the Curator at Timespan, a cultural institution in northern Scotland, where she developed a contemporary arts programme. Her research interests revolve around the conditions of practice in artists' moving image, experimental critique forms, and neurodivergent methodologies for accessing contemporary art. Frances is a Teaching Fellow in the School of Art, part of the core team for the MA Contemporary Art Theory, contributing to undergraduate courses and leading projects that allow students to explore art in diverse contexts.
